Catalpa Satyr I

This is my first experience with catalpa, I'd say it is similar to butternut though the grain is much more consistent and straight.  It has been oiled with a tint, then paste wax.  8"Wx6"Hx6"D 

It's destination is a notch in an old hand-hewn barn beam which runs through a living room.  The beam has many of these notches from where some rafters must have attached, I hope to carve an occupant for each one.  I thought it would be fun to number each one and (hopefully) see some sort of progression, this is why I carved the shield with the Roman numeral 1 below the head.
